History of Iratel Wire and Cable Company
Iratel Wire and Cable Company began its operations in 1981 in the city of Qom, with the aim of meeting domestic market demand for various types of industrial, building, and telecommunication cables. At a time when Iran’s wire and cable industry was still taking shape, Iratel embarked on a path of sustainable development by investing in production equipment and adopting a long-term vision.
The company’s operations started on a 22,000 square meter site, and through two development phases in 2001 and 2016, its production infrastructure, line capacity, and product diversity expanded significantly. Over the years, Iratel has succeeded in manufacturing a wide range of cables in compliance with national and international standards by utilizing advanced German and Italian machinery and continuously upgrading its technology.
In the 1990s, the company consolidated its presence by focusing on the production of twisted-pair telecommunication cables, antenna cables, figure-8 cables, and both underground and aerial cables. Thanks to the consistent quality of its products, Iratel quickly gained recognition in the country’s construction and telecommunications markets.
With the onset of the 2000s and growing demand in the electrical market, Iratel expanded its production lines to include flexible power and energy cables. By obtaining the ISIRI national standard, the company further solidified its position in electrical and building project sectors.
A major transformation occurred in the mid-2010s with the company’s entry into the network cable market, producing Cat5e and Cat6 cables. These products were manufactured in full compliance with global standards such as ISO/IEC 11801 and TIA/EIA-568-C, playing a vital role in supporting information technology and network infrastructure.
Towards the end of the decade, the company made a significant leap forward by importing seventh-generation network cable production machinery and upgrading its quality control laboratory. Today, Iratel is capable of producing high-performance Cat7 S/FTP cables, engineered for reliable data transmission and fully compatible with the requirements of sensitive infrastructure projects.
Now, with over 40 years of industrial experience, a broad product range, and full alignment with the needs of industrial, telecommunication, construction, and IT markets, Iratel is recognized as a trusted, professional, and leading brand in Iran’s wire and cable industry.
Application of Petrochemical Materials in Network, Instrumentation, and Telecommunication Cables
Petrochemical materials are essential in the production of cables, shaping their structure, performance, and resistance to environmental and electrical stresses. Their applications can be grouped as follows:
1. Insulation & Sheathing
Polyethylene (PE): Used as insulation in network and instrumentation cables. Offers moisture resistance and good electrical properties. XLPE is preferred for thermal endurance.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Common for jackets and insulation. Cost-effective, flame-retardant, and chemically resistant.
TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer): Used in flexible, durable sheaths for industrial use.
2. Fillers & Gels
Silicone or Polyolefin Gels: Prevent water ingress in telecom and fiber optic cables.
Polypropylene (PP): Lightweight filler material that maintains cable shape and balance.
3. Electromagnetic Shielding
Aluminum-Polyester Tapes: Block EMI and improve signal quality, especially in data and instrumentation cables.
4. Additives & Stabilizers
UV & Heat Stabilizers: Protect cables in outdoor settings.
Flame Retardants: Enhance safety, available in halogenated and halogen-free forms.
5. Polyurethane (PU)
Used for high-flex, abrasion-resistant cables in harsh environments.
Summary: From insulation and sheathing to shielding and additives, petrochemical materials ensure cables meet mechanical, electrical, and environmental demands. Their smart selection is key to quality and long-term reliability.
Copper in Cable Manufacturing (Network, Instrumentation, Telecom)
Copper is a critical conductor in modern cable production due to its exceptional electrical conductivity, durability, and flexibility.
1. Primary Conductor
Function: Main material for signal and power transmission.
Advantages:
fast, efficient data transfer
High electrical conductivity
suitable for tight bends and industrial use
Durable and flexible
Types Used:
Annealed copper: Soft, for flexible cables (LAN, instrumentation)
Tinned copper: Corrosion-resistant, ideal for humid environments
Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC): Used in low-noise, high-purity applications
2. Signal Integrity
In network cables (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat7): Low signal loss, high-speed transmission over long distances
In instrumentation cables: Accurate, interference-resistant signal transfer for control and measurement
In telecom cables: Reliable voice/data transmission across phone lines and backbone networks
3. Shielding & Grounding
Copper braids or tapes used as EMI shields in sensitive cables
Ground wires made of copper for safe discharge of leakage or surge currents
Copper ensures efficiency, stability, and protection in cable systems. It remains irreplaceable in high-performance applications across networking, industrial control, and telecommunications.
